Buy cheap Makita HM1500B 42-Pound Demolition Hammer Glad I bought it.By rubismardiI bought this tool as a homeowner to remove large amounts of slab, fence footings and digging clay. I wanted to do a little at a time since there was alot of work to be done as opposed to renting a larger brute 60 lb. at the rental center. I compared this to the bosch and dewalt SDS hammers and couldn't find any info on what thickness concrete these hammers could remove. I took a look at both hammers at homeless depot and the sales people at several stores couldn't answer my question. Neither could the bosch tech line. So I went with the heavier 1 1/8 bits just to be sure, glad I did. This hammer excells with 4" slab, I have used it to break up to 8" but it takes longer and you wind up with more rubble than chunks. I think I would have been dissapointed with the SDS hammers for my use. You don't want to be sweeping up concrete pebbles and dust.
